Today, Zoho launches a major upgrade of its main office suite products: Zoho Writer, Sheet, Show and laptops. These tools become an infusion of AI - under the brand "Zia" Zoho - and new AppleTV and Android integration and more. All tools are becoming a kind of IA-based function or another, but they also gain support for Zia voice conversation assistant AI Zoho.
With this, you are now able to ask questions about the data in your spreadsheet, for example, and Zia will create charts and pivot tables even for you. Similarly, Zoho using Zia in the document editor and presentation tool to provide better grammar and spell checking tool (and now will offer value readout and tips to improve your text). In Zoho Notebook, note-taking app also the latest enterprise applications, Zia can help users make a different format for their entry card based on the content (text, photos, audio, checklist, sketches, etc.).
"We want to make AI help in a very contextual manner for specific applications," Raju Vegesna, Zoho evangelist head, told me. "Because we do AI across the board, we learn a lot and be able to apply the learning on one technology and one piece of context and apply it to another." Zoho first brought Zia to business intelligence applications, for example, and now it's basically carrying capability the same for its spreadsheet application, too.
It should be noted that Google and Microsoft did something similar with productivity applications they, too, of course. Zoho, however, argue that it offers a variety of far wider range of applications - and its stated mission is that you should be able to run your entire business on the platform. And the plan is to bring some form of AI to them all. "Fast-forward a few months and [AI grammar and spelling checker us] applied in the context of business applications - perhaps ticket agents respond to customer support can use this technology to make sure there are no typos in the responses," said Vegesna.
There are many other updates in this release, as well. Zoho Show now works with the AppleTV-enabled devices, for example, and Android users can now use their mobile phone as a smart remote for the Show. Zoho Sheet now lets you build custom functions and scripts and web Zoho Writer, mobile and iPad version can now work completely offline.
The broader context here, though, is that Zoho, with ridiculously broad product portfolio, playing a long game. The company has no interest in going public. But it also knows that it will be against companies like Google and Microsoft. "Vertical integration is not something that you see in our industry," said Vegesna. "The company is in fast mode to get traction, sell or go public. We see it in the 10 to 20 year time frame. To really win that game, you need to make a serious investment in the market.
